Easter morning of 2020, we received a call from a neighbor of Reval's owners. He advised Reval's owner has been beating him with a 2x4 for a couple of days and he had talked the neighbor into surrendering Reval to him. He did and the neighbor took him to seek vet help. Without lots of testing, they were only able to give him pain meds. So this neighbor contacted us, we rushed to get him and took him straight to ER. After xrays and additional testing, it was determined he needed to see a neurologist for possible surgery. The next morning, we headed to Mizzou.
Reval was admitted to Mizzou hospital on April 13, 2020. He underwent blood test, xrays, MRI and other testing to determine the extent of his injuries. The neurology team decided he needed surgery but they could not promise he would ever be able to walk again. We knew he could not live in pain so, on April 15, 2020, he had a hemilaminectomy. This is a spine surgery that involves removing part of one of the two laiminae on a vertebra to relieve excess pressure on the spinal nerves in the lumbar spine. Once they were able to see his spin and vertebra with their eyes, it looked like this has been an issue for sometime. 😢
Once Reval was released from the hospital at Mizzou, he went through several rounds of therapy but he struggled to walk. Reval found it easier to just pull himself around by his front legs. We got him a set of wheels but he refused to use them.
Today, Reval is enjoying his life at his foster home. His foster mom changes his diapers several times a day and gives him baths frequently to ensure his private area stays clean.
It costs us about $80.00 a month for Reval's care. You can help by sponsoring Revel.
