Patience
Another Dog In the Home Already
Secure Physical Fenced Yard
Lydia came from a commercial breeder and is learning all the fine things about being a loved pet. She knows that having other 4-legged friends that plays is really fun in her new life. So at least one that is not too big or too small. She also enjoys sleeping in the big bed but her foster mom must put her up there. Otherwise, she is also fine sleeping on a bed on the floor next to her foster mom. Lydia is not destructive so no need to put her in a kennel, she has spent enough of her life in one of those.
Lydia is very hesitant on harness and leash still. This will take her some time to get used to so you will need patience. Until she is very comfortable on one, she will need a secure physical fenced yard. This is for her safety to do her business and a place for you to work with her on the harness and leash.
Lydia’s foster mom is happy to report, she is about 99.9% housetrained. It is important to note that anytime there is a change in environment or schedule, you must give the dog a chance to be successful. A new routine that employs consistency & praise will help set them up for success.
Because of Lydia’s past, she is not going to run up to you for hugs and kisses. However in time, she will. You are going to need patience and time to work with her and gain her trust. Remember, everything is new to her, and she doesn’t know what love is. She loves children, adults, men, women, all her foster canine siblings. She very much enjoys making friends.
