INSTRUCTIONS for ADOPTION:
Hazel came into rescue knowing this was her ticket to her forever family. She wasted no time getting to know her foster home, checking out the amenities, & making friends with her foster siblings. Hazel is the complete puppy package. Energy, intelligence, curious nature, & love. At just over one year old, she has shown us how trainable she is.
Hazel is independent but needs companionship. She plays with toys & explores the yard then comes to your lap for snuggles. Her foster mom leaves her in a dedicated doggie safe area of the home when she is away. She has entertainment, tv or sound machine, & a doggie friend to keep her company. She doesn't get into things she shouldn't and is a good girl until her foster mom returns. Hazel is also good in a crate, with a friend, for short periods of time. At night, Hazel loves to snuggle up in the big bed with her foster mom & her other Cavalier. Hazel will not do well being separated at night. She needs to have company.
Hazel likes to please people. Catching on to potty training has been easy for her, and she enjoys the verbal praise. She is also treat motivated, so that is a very good reward, too. Remember, in a new home, a new environment means that new habits will have to be established. Please be prepared to set her up for success by getting a schedule in place. Always praise Hazel when she meets your expectations.
Hazel does well with a secure harness & leash. We definitely recommend training & bonding before you go out into an unfamiliar area. Hazel will do her potty business on a harness, but she sure loves to run around in a fenced yard. It is where she is able to use her brain & get good stimulation a few times a day. We are willing to discuss adoption if you don't have a physically fenced yard, we will take this on a case-by-case basis. Do know, we absolutely will NOT allow shock collars or invisible fences.
Hazel is fantastic with other dogs of similar size. She seems to enjoy company of small & large crowds, alike. She absolutely loves car rides & will ride perfectly for a road trip. Hazel would do well with children who are rowdy & loud but also know how to respectfully play with a small dog. It is important to remember that Hazel is also a toddler, she will put small things (toys) in her mouth. Keeping areas picked up & safe for her is extremely important.
Please submit your application if you are ready to bring Hazel into your family. Please do some research on the Cavalier breed if you are not familiar. We hope to find the perfect family for Hazel!
